What is the purpose of government? Is it
A) to serve the general welfare of the people? or
B) to empower the elite to live and do as they please?
This is the battle of political philosophies that has raged in this land since before the adoption of the US Constitution
It is a useful framing that gives us a lens to evaluate every bit of news that crosses our awareness
It takes us out of the tempest and gives us perspective on the whole flow of events so that we can more clearly see what is going on
And it helps us to evaluate, through the effects of their actions, where each public actor stands on the question
Do we want a government that serves the people? or do we choose to become servants of the government?
