So, Pete Hegseth has called a huge, in-person meeting of ALL flag officers for this coming Tuesday. Each will bring at least some of their staff, so thousands of personnel—the leaders of ALL aspects of the American military—will be in transit at once and then all located in a single geographical location.
This has never been done before…high-level synchronous communications across all branches of the military have been done routinely by secure video conference. Gathering them into the same physical location? Never.
This raises many questions and concerns. Apart from the sheer transportation expense of millions of dollars to bring so many people together from all ends of the planet, it seems like an extraordinary and unnecessary national security concern.
What purpose could possibly require the physical presence of all of these leaders in one place? Is this mere incompetence on the part of the Defense Secretary (btw, who ominously calls himself “Secretary of War”)? If this is a foolish act of performance art it is hard to fathom ahead of time what effect is desired.
The Massacre of Glencoe comes to mind.
I fear that this event is intended to be a deciding moment in Trump’s seizure of power on a scale the world hasn’t seen since Krystalnacht.
Is this the moment when the willingness of each of these American military leaders to follow Trump’s will is to be assessed? Is this the time when plans for a military takeover will be sealed?
I imagine that we will see a massive purge of leadersip after this event.
But I pray to God that history will show my fears to have been foolish paranoia.

UPDATE on Oct 2
It is hard to make sense of that meeting.
Was it as ridiculous as it appeared or did something nefarious go on behind the scenes?
From the outside, it seems that a weak, incompetent fool was putting on a show of bravado.
And then the President rambled on. Seriously…is he well? You know that if Joe Biden put on an appearance like that, Republicans would be screaming to activate the 25th Amendment.
What is holding them back? Surely they understand that a unified, convulsive blow to unseat him is their best chance of holding their jobs?
In any case, if any good can come of this strange meeting, it may be that the senior leadership of the military were able to witness first hand the extent of the President’s dementia and the Secretary of Defense’s incompetence.
